Dagys_-2014_237744After having taken its first steps in Prototype Challenge last year at the Petit Le Mans, 8Star Motorsports will take up many challenges this season. Racing in Prototype Lites, Enzo Potolicchio’s team will also defend its title in the LM GTE-AM class at the World Endurance Championship. Moreover, 8Star enters an ORECA-FLM09 in the United SportsCar Championship’s full program.

For 8Star, the year began with a podium at the 24 Hours of Daytona with a 2nd place in Prototype Challenge. Enzo Potolicchio does not regret his class choice. « We have some experience in LM P2 as well as in Daytona Prototypes and I think that going into PC was the right decision » he explains. « DPs are fast cars, but updating them was expensive and I think that LM P2 is the future. PC’s rules and regulations are well-known and the package is affordable. I have to say that I am impressed with the way the car was built by ORECA. It is a real turnkey car. I have never received a car that had been so well-prepared by a manufacturer before a shakedown. It is a reliable car, good value and a good Pro/Am system. I am proud of being part of it. »

As at the Petit Le Mans, the team ended up on the second step of the podium at Daytona. But Enzo Potolicchio wants more. « We were in the lead of most of the Petit Le Mans, our first race in PC. Our team did a good job. We were also in front in Daytona but we encountered a small exhaust problem and we were not able to compete effectively toward the end of the race. We are now looking forward to our first victory. The car has been totally rebuilt and well-prepared for Sebring. »

Seeking for its first success, 8Star has also got the title in focus. « We want to compete for the Prototype Challenge’s title » says Potolicchio. « I think that we have the best Silver driver as well as an excellent professional driver. I am convinced that we will soon win. We will be competitive in long races. With our two 2nd places we have shown what we are capable of, but we want more. We also would like to run a second car later in the car, and we are thinking about a LM P2 project for next year. »

In Sebring, the ORECA-FLM09 of 8Star Motorsports will be handed over to Michael Marsal and Tom Kimber-Smith, supported by Eric Lux and Sean Rayhall.
