12H Sebring : PR1/Mathiasen seeking to repeat Prototype Challenge title

Winner in the Prototype Challenge’s drivers rankings last year, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports is once again present in 2014, entering an ORECA-FLM09 in the United SportsCar Championship. Boss Bobby Oergel has one goal in mind : to make the repeat !

Fourth at the 24 Hours of Daytona in PC class, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports was disappointed in the way their championship began. But Bobby Oergel wants to point up the ORECA-FLM09’s good performance on the twice around the clock race in Florida. « Before Daytona, many people were sceptical and nervous about this car because originally it had not been designed to compete in such a long race » he says. « But actually, I think that PC cars most probably have the best ratio in terms of the number of cars on the starting grid and the number of them crossing the finish line. Regarding us, we had decided to change the original battery but that created a problem with the alternator. It’s a real disappointment because we were comfortably running at the second place when that problem occurred. »      

PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports still scored some important points and the team is now focused on the annual 12 Hours of Sebring. « We are aiming for the title once again » says Oergel. « We won this race last year but it is a very difficult one. The competition will certainly be even harder. Even more difficult than the four first years of Prototype Challenge, although it was already very tricky in the past season ! » 

Aware of the tough battle awaiting them, PR1/Mathiasen’s boss remains confident. « As opposed to some other teams, we will not enter two cars and I do not think that will necessarily be a disadvantage. It can be helpful sometimes regarding some adjustments but our car has not changed and we have gained a lot of experience throughout these last years. We have the tools we need in order to win. »
