American team CORE autosport has confirmed it will enter an ORECA 07 for the 2018 season of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. On the heels of a solid experience in the Prototype Challenge with the ORECA FLM-09, moving into the LMP2 class is the next logical step for the defending champion team.

The benefit of experience

Above all, CORE autosport has a wide spectrum of experience to its credit: experience in prototypes, American circuits and ORECA chassis. Indeed, for six seasons (2011-2016) the team led by Jon Benett has proven itself a major player in the Prototype Challenge class in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, earning multiple titles. With so many advantages in hand, moving up into the LMP2 class was a no-brainer.

Maintaining a strong presence on the North American continent, the South Carolinian team will move forward with a modified dual program: Endurance in the LMP2 class along with Global Rallycross in which it has competed for the past two years.

Hugues de Chaunac, President Group ORECA : “We are of course really happy to have CORE autosport joining the ORECA family in LM P2. Actually, it feels like the team is coming back home because of the long-term relationship we have since the involvement in Prototype Challenge. We were talking about it since a long time and it finally happens ! Jon Bennett, Morgan Brady and the whole CORE autosport team have made such a great job in IMSA series that we are looking forward to work together with the ORECA 07. I would like to thank them for their faith and we will work hard to keep up with their expectations. I am confident the team will be competitive with our car. It’s a strong package and we know how CORE autosport is well-structured. This decision also shows how the prototype class generate a great interest.”

And with this new commitment, the ORECA 07 continues its efforts toward fulfilling one of its goals: to win on the American continent as a key competitor in the LMP2 class. Alongside JDC Miller-Motorsport, the team from Rock Hill will be looking to make its mark.
