WEC Brazil 6 Hour RaceAfter the 6 Hours of Bahrain, the TOYOTA Racing knew it had won the Drivers’ title as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship. However, following on the 2014 season final 6-hour race which took place this week-end in Sao Paulo, the squad has now sealed a second title. Indeed, TOYOTA has become the first Japanese manufacturer to clinch the FIA World Endurance Championship Manufacturers’ title. With full support from engineers and mechanics from ORECA, TOYOTA Racing outdistanced Audi and Porsche, having racked up 5 wins throughout the year with the two TS040 HYBRID.

« ORECA is proud to have taken part in this programme since its very beginning »
It was a little more than two years ago, during the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, in Interlagos already. For the first time, Alex Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre had come first with the TS030 HYBRID. Actually, many other wins were about to follow that first victory for TOYOTA Racing, as the manufacturer was returning to endurance then. Two more in 2012 (Fuji, Shanghai), then another two in 2013 (Fuji, Bahrain) and finally 5 wins in 2014 (Silverstone, Spa, Fuji, Shanghai, Bahrain). Three fantastic seasons which have now culminated to two world achievements : a Drivers’ title and a Manufacturers’ title. The former goes to Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi who were also supported by Nicolas Lapierre throughout the first part of the season. While the sister car, shared by Alex Wurz, Stéphane Sarrazin and, depending on the races, Kazuki Nakajima and Mike Conway, contributed to achieve the latter.

« ORECA is very happy about these world titles achieved by TOYOTA Racing in Endurance » says Hugues de Chaunac. « It has been a colossal journey since the TS030 HYBRID’s first laps. Entering this discipline to compete against Audi, with such a revolutionary hybrid technology, was a huge challenge. Since then, TOYOTA has proven the many qualities of that technology. With new rules as well as Porsche coming into the competition, 2014 was another very challenging season. But there again, TOYOTA’s choice of the TS040 HYBRID and its 1000hp has been a success. Congratulations to all the teams and everybody working within TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH in Cologne and the Motor Sport Division and Hybrid department of TOYOTA Motor Corporation in Japan. Congratulations also to all the drivers which have taken part in this adventure. ORECA is proud to have taken part in this programme since its very beginning, in late 2011, when TMG decided to call on our experience of Endurance. I am very thankful for the trust they put in us at the time. It has always remained with us throughout every single season since. »

Late 2011, TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH announced its return to Endurance, including to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and chose ORECA as its partner. Since the beginning of the project, ORECA has been bringing its operational support and experience of the discipline with engineers and mechanics attending the competitions. This partnership will continue in 2015.
