WRT clinches pole position at the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans

Free Practice 3

Before heading into Thursday’s Hyperpole main event, the 26 ORECA 07 chassis and one Alpine A480 entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans took the track for Free Practice 3. The session was disrupted by three incidents involving TDS Racing x Vaillante, Graff Racing and Duqueine Team. Though WRT’s #31 ORECA 07 dominated the session at length, United Autosports clocked the fastest time of 3:30.964 near the end with the #22 ORECA 07, followed by its #23 sister car trailing by 0.061 of a second and the #31 by 0.066. With a time of 3:32.057 clocked by Ricky Taylor, Cool Racing finished fourth ahead of JOTA Sport’s #38. AF Corse’s #83 ORECA 07 finished 12th overall and first in Pro/Am.

The Alpine A480 finished fifth in the Hypercar class.

Hyperpole

The six quickest LMP2s during Wednesday’s qualifying were given 30 minutes to score pole position on Thursday. With the top time of 3:28.394, WRT’s Robin Frijns sealed the deal. The Belgian team first saw a one-two finish with the #41 Realteam by WRT car second at 1″3. The following day, Norman Nato’s best time was finally deleted by the stewards following a track limit.
