Cool Racing grabbed a ticket for Hyperpole session

We now know the Hyperpole qualifiers! Following on a one-hour hard-fought qualifying session, Cool Racing’s #37 ORECA 07 took action to secure a place within the Top 8. From 8pm this Thursday, the Swiss team’s prototype and seven other ORECA 07s will take part in the session to try to claim the pole position.

Free practice 1:

LMP2:

Fastest in FP1, it was a double whammy for AO by TF’s #14 ORECA 07. PJ Hyett, Louis Delétraz, and Alex Quinn not only clocked the fastest time overall but also in the Pro/Am class. With its 3:34.245 lap, the trio beat Duqueine Team’s #30 ORECA 07 by 598 thousandths. John Falb, James Allen, and Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer set the third fastest time: 3:34.843.

United Autosports USA’s #23 ORECA 07 (Ben Keating, Filipe Albuquerque, Benjamin Hanley) finished third in both the LMP2 and Pro/Am classes, a good outcome before heading to the qualifying. Proton Competition’s #9 ORECA 07 (Jonas Ried, Maceo Capietto, Bent Viscaal) and United Autosports’ #22 ORECA 07 # (Oliver Jarvis, Bijoy Garg, Nolan Siegel) rounded out the Top 5.

Hypercar:

For this first practice session, both Alpine A424s made it into the Top 10. Nicolas Lapierre, Mick Schumacher, and Matthieu Vaxiviere’s #36 car finished ninth with a 3:27.430 lap, just ahead of Paul-Loup Chatin, Ferdinand Habsburg-Lothringen, and Charles Milesi’s #35 car, in tenth place (3:27.483).

Qualifying:

LMP2:

Malthe Jakobsen delivered! Sharing the wheel of Cool Racing’s #37 ORECA 07 with teammates Lorenzo Fluxa and Ritomo Miyata, the Dane was the fastest in the qualifying. With a best time of 3:32.827, he beat Louis Delétraz and AO by TF’s #14 ORECA 07 by 0.307 sec. Fastest in FP1, the crew, who is also competing in the Pro/Am class, has confirmed it is in good form.

United Autosports’ two ORECA 07s finished in the Top 8. Ben Hanley’s #23 car finished third (3:33.430), while the sister car (#22) qualified in the very last moments thanks to a lap of 3:34.480 posted by Oliver Jarvis.

In pole position last year, IDEC Sport’s #28 ORECA 07 might claim it again this year. Job Van Uitert’s time of 3:34.125 allowed his car to finish fifth. Panis Racing’s #65 ORECA 07, Vector Sport’s #10 car and DKR Engineering’s #33 will also take to the track.

Hypercar:

One Alpine A424 will take part in the Hyperpole session. Paul-Loup Chatin, Ferdinand Habsburg-Lothringen, and Charles Milesi’s #35 car qualified with a nice 3:24.872 lap, claiming fourth position. The #36 car will be in tenth place on the starting grid of the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans.

LMP2:

Wednesday’s final hours of track time in Le Mans took place under night conditions. The drivers had two hours to get their bearings and Cool Racing’s #37 ORECA 07 came out on top. Riding momentum of the qualifying session, Lorenzo Fluxa, Malthe Jakobsen, and Ritomo Miyata set the fastest time (3:35.386).

United Autosports’ #22 ORECA 07 (Oliver Jarvis, Bijoy Garg, Nolan Siegel) was second fastest with a 3:36.551 lap. Panis Racing’s #65 ORECA 07 (Rodrigo Sales, Mathias Beche, Scott Huffaker) finished third in class (3:36.600) and was the fastest in Pro/Am. The Pro/Am Top 3 was rounded out by Duqueine Team’s #30 ORECA 07 and AF Corse’s #183 ORECA 07.

Hypercar:

The Alpine A424s continue to improve session by session. The #36 car (Nicolas Lapierre, Mick Schumacher, Matthieu Vaxiviere) made it into the Top 5 (3:28.458) while sister car #35 (Paul-Loup Chatin, Ferdinand Habsburg-Lothringen, Charles Milesi) finished seventh, less than two tenths behind (3:28.644).

The third free practice session is scheduled this Thursday 13 June from 3pm, followed by the Hyperpole from 8pm and a fourth free practice session at 10pm.
