Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport and Meyer Shank Racing’s two Acura ARX-06s faced off this weekend at the Long Beach street circuit for the first 100-minute sprint race of the season. Despite a superb showing of speed, a number of setbacks prevented the two Acuras from finishing well.

Yet, the weekend had kicked off on a high note with pole position for Wayne Taylor Racing’s Filipe Albuquerque after a highly competitive qualifying session at the third round of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. With a fastest time of 01:09.909 at the wheel of the #10 Acura ARX-06, he qualified only 0.674 seconds ahead of rival Meyer Shank Racing’s Tom Blomqvist in the #60.

As always, the race delivered several twists including a collision right from the start which saw the #60 Acura spin and fall a lap behind the leaders.

Pole-sitter Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport’s #10 Acura ARX-06 held on to the top spot for the first 40 minutes of the race, but a hiccup during its only pit stop caused the car to lose 10 precious seconds.

Ricky Taylor then sought to retake the reins with only eight seconds separating him and his closest competitor, but an overtaking attempt nine minutes from the chequered flag launched him into the tyre wall at the first turn, dashing all hope for victory two laps from the finish. Taylor and Albuquerque ended the race in seventh place.

Colin Braun and Blomqvist did their best to improve in the classification, and though the latter did clock the quickest in-race lap, the duo was forced to settle for sixth place after incurring a penalty for excessive speed in pit lane.

Acura is sure to seek payback at the next round at Laguna Seca on 12-14 May!
