This weekend, four ORECA 07 chassis hit the track in Abu Dhabi at Yas Marina Circuit for the finale of the 2022 Asian Le Mans Series season. After not participating in the first two races of the championship, United Autosports took the start in the second two, primarily to allow Josh Pierson, only 16 years and five days old, to cut his teeth in the LMP2 class.

As pole-sitter in the last two races of this year’s Asian Le Mans Series thanks to a solid performance by Paul di Resta in qualifying, the United Autosports team felt confident its ORECA 07 would do well in the races.

At Saturday’s round, Pierson (after a stint of three hours nine minutes) and di Resta made it to the checkered flag with a one lap lead on championship leader Nielsen Racing. However, thanks to its second place finish and great regularity late in the race despite several twists, Nielsen Racing earned the LMP2 title and consequently an automatic invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In Am, Graff Racing enjoyed an excellent outing, winning another victory as a result of a stunning overtaking near the end of the race by David Droux on his rival Anders Fjordbach at the wheel of High Class Racing’s #49 ORECA 07.

On Sunday, Pierson and di Resta continued their momentum, claiming the top step on the podium at the last round of the 2022 season with a one lap lead on Nielsen Racing. In the top spot for the entire four-hour race, the British-American duo held the lead comfortably from start to finish. Though they ended in second place, Rodrigo Sales, Matt Bell and Ben Hanley left with the most points since the ORECA 07 of United Autosports was not a contender in the championship. Third overall, Graff Racing scored a third win in four races in the Am class, and therefore won the title! After contact was made with an LMP3 in the second hour, High Class Racing was delayed and finished fifth in LMP2.

Now, all eyes are on the opening round of the 2022 FIA WEC season, and the second race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, at the Sebring circuit in Florida on 18-19 March.
